Q: What is your sub-specialty?
A: Internal Medicine
Q: Why did you choose it?
A: I love taking care of the whole person, not just one system. I also loved the detective work involved ferreting out the true cause of the illness.
Q: What do you like most about being in health care?
A: Helping people to rebalanced their lives to a healthier and happier state of being.
Q: What would you like to change about your health care practice?
A: I would love to streamline the "paperwork" of the patient visit, and have more time to work with patients to effect a greater change.

| Also, I would like to work with insurance companies to change Integrative Medicine to a reimbursable discipline. This would make a big impact on the availability and affordability for patients who so need the care. |
The Fellowship Program in Integrative Medicine
Q: Why did you join the Fellowship Program?
A: To be able to get more education in complementary/holistic forms of medicine, so that I can effectively combine these modalities with traditional medicine, to enhance healing and wellness. I have been studying this for years, and recently was given the opportunity by our hospital system to set up and direct an Integrative Medicine Service Line. Dr. Weil's program provided the best of both worlds(honoring both systems), with a very practical honest approach. I was delighted to have the opportunity to study here, as well as meet those others on the cutting edge of what I think will be the medicine of the future.

Personal
Q: Where was the best place you've ever lived and why?
A: I don't really have a "best place", as I have enjoyed wherever I have been. I have some favorite places to visit however... one is our mountain property in Ashe county as it has such a spiritual feel to it. The other is Hawaii, for the same reason.
|
Q: What do you do to relax?
A: I spend time with my family, love to cook different ethnic dishes, bake bread, work in my garden, visit friends who love metaphysics as I do, ride my horse, travel when I can, hike...and spend time out of doors anywhere.
|
Q: Have any pets? If yes, tell us about them.
A: We have chickens, ducks, horses, dogs and cats...a wonderful abundance. We also have a blue heron that graces our pond (love to watch him or her prowling the pond fishing, or just standing there being himself). Love my chickens, and duckies..calling them to feed makes me laugh at their antics. Also love our horses, especially my main buddy Athos. Angie our Boston Terrier keeps us entertained in the house, and Blue and Jackie the outside dogs are equally loved (as are the barn cats Xena and Lena).
|
Q: Share something about yourself that will help others get to know you.
A: I study and practice yoga, have studied martial arts (achieved a black belt in Tae Kwon Do). Fascinated with Energy Medicine I pursued and completed the Instructors Certification in two forms of energy medicine-Quantum Touch and Reiki, and have studied with Dr. Rosalyn Bruyere, a nationally renowned healer. Have also had the good fortune to study 2 years with Dr. Christine Page in Intuitive Medicine. In November 2005 graduated as a Fellow of the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, and have been honored to be asked to create the Integrative Medicine Service Line for our hospital system, Northeast Medical Center. I love to share thoughts and ideas that would allow us all to grow as healers, and so created the first American Holistic Nursing Association Training Certification so that our nurses may shift the paradigm in patient care to an Integrative Model.
